Ante Budimir’s penalty gave Osasuna a 1-0 victory over Getafe at El Sadar on Monday, extending their unbeaten start to the LaLiga season and leaving Luis Miguel Ramis’s side with seven points from their opening three matches.
The decisive moment came in first-half stoppage time after VAR alerted referee Jon Ander González Esteban to a foul inside the Getafe area. Djené Dakonam was judged to have held Budimir during a corner, and the Osasuna striker made no mistake from the spot.
The victory was Osasuna’s second in succession and completed a demanding run of three league matches in seven days. Their defensive resilience proved as important as Budimir’s finish as Getafe pushed for an equaliser after the break.
Budimir penalty gives Osasuna the advantage
Osasuna began with greater attacking intent, with Aimar Oroz finding space to drive into the Getafe area on two occasions without managing to produce a decisive finish.
Getafe gradually settled and the contest became more evenly balanced, with both defences limiting clear openings. The breakthrough arrived just before the interval when a corner led to a VAR review of Djené’s challenge on Budimir.
After reviewing the incident, the referee awarded the penalty. Budimir stepped forward and converted to put Osasuna ahead.
The goal gave the hosts a lead they would spend much of the second half protecting, although they continued to threaten when opportunities appeared.
VAR denies Getafe an equaliser
Getafe returned from the interval looking more determined to change the game and thought they had levelled when Enes Ünal finished at the far post following a low delivery involving Ramón Terrats and Andrés García.
The goal did not stand. VAR identified Ünal in an offside position and the effort was ruled out, denying José Bordalás’s side a potentially important equaliser.
Osasuna were then forced to withstand further pressure. Sergio Herrera produced a crucial save on the line to keep out a close-range effort from Terrats as Getafe searched for a way back into the match.
The visitors continued to seek control, but Osasuna remained dangerous on the counter. Dubasin and Kike Barja both had opportunities late on, while Getafe could not find the finish needed to take anything from Pamplona.
Osasuna maintain strong start under Ramis
The result leaves Osasuna with seven points from a possible nine after three rounds. Ramis’s side had already beaten Celta and drawn with Levante before adding another victory to their early-season record.
The performance was not built on overwhelming possession or a flood of chances. Instead, Osasuna made the key moments count, protected their lead effectively and relied on Herrera when Getafe created danger.
For Getafe, the defeat leaves them on three points after three matches. Their inability to turn pressure into a goal proved costly, while the narrow margin underlined how little separated the teams at El Sadar.
David Soria makes LaLiga history
The match also marked a landmark occasion for Getafe goalkeeper David Soria. By starting against Osasuna, Soria made his 193rd consecutive LaLiga start, moving beyond Juan Antonio Larrañaga’s previous record of 192.
Soria’s remarkable run began in August 2021 and has continued through more than five seasons, making him the player with the most consecutive starts in the history of Spain’s top flight.
His personal milestone, however, came on a night when Budimir’s penalty decided the contest and Osasuna strengthened their position among the early pace-setters.
Osasuna will next travel to face Alavés on September 6, while Getafe will look to respond in their next league fixture after a frustrating night in Pamplona.
